The battery life of the MacBook Pro is very long, but eventually you need to charge it. But for some users of the latest MacBook Pro, this is impossible. Several users on Reddit posted that the laptop cannot be charged normally when connected to the 140W MagSafe power adapter.

The problem is obviously limited to the 16-inch MacBook Pro and the 140-watt power adapter, which comes with the device for fast charging. The problem occurs when the MagSafe power adapter is connected after the MacBook Pro is shut down. The laptop will make a ping sound, and the connector's LED will flash continuously and cyclically. When this happens, the battery will not be charged, but if the battery level is higher than 80%, the error stops. We discussed similar charging issues last week.

The editor of our sister publication MacWelt in Germany also encountered the same problem, but did find a possible solution. This involves deliberately inserting the MagSafe adapter before turning off the MacBook or putting the MacBook to sleep, which is not a permanent or ideal solution. Apple may resolve this issue in the upcoming macOS Monterey update.

This problem seems to only affect MagSafe charging. Laptops that show the problem can be charged using a USB-C cable instead of MagSafe when shutting down. The user u/_Trillionaire_ who initiated the Reddit post said that Apple supports instructing them to keep macOS updated and charged in sleep mode as a workaround.

Apple Support initially told the user u/_Trillionaire_ to boot into recovery mode and then restart the Mac again, but this was only a temporary fix.

Several users on Reddit posted that they had brought their laptops to the Apple Store for consultation and were told that Apple was aware of the issue and was "investigating." Some users said that after visiting the Apple Store, Apple contacted them to obtain more information about the issue. Others got replacement laptops.

We will update this article with any new information as it becomes available.
